VPNs

VPNs are an encrypted tunnel between computers, they are either used for a corporation to allow secure/role based access into their network, this can be useful for employees working from home who still needs to access for example a file-server on the companies network, essentially, tunneling from the employees home network into the company network.

Use case 2, which is this services use case, more and more the internet is being restricted, the first big thing is porn. Some states in the USA and UK have enacted laws that make you verify your age to view porn, going as far as making you upload your drivers license, Pornhub, XNXX to name a few do this if your IP is coming from a state that has these new laws.
