If Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" box

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting.
Click More info, then Run anyway. You should not see this box at all: our installer is code-signed, and the signature says Jeffrey King, issued by Microsoft’s code-signing authority. SmartScreen also weighs how many people have installed a given build, so a release published hours ago can still be "unrecognised" for a while.

Check the signature yourself before you run it: right-click the downloaded file → Properties → Digital Signatures. If that tab is missing, or names anyone else, do not run the file – it did not come from us.

Installing

  1. Run the downloaded installer and accept the Windows administrator prompt.
  2. Follow it through. It installs the app, the OpenVPN and WireGuard engines and the network adapter.
  3. Start the app and sign in with your account e-mail and password.
  4. Pick a location on the Servers page and press Connect.

Print it yourself with certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 in PowerShell or Command Prompt.

The installer and the app inside it are signed with an Azure Artifact Signing certificate issued to Jeffrey King and timestamped by Microsoft, so the signature stays valid long after the short-lived certificate expires.

Other versions

Kept so you can go back if a new build misbehaves. The newest is almost always the one you want – older builds do not get fixes.
